Micronesian Kingfisher

Todiramphus colonus

The Micronesian Kingfisher, scientifically known as Todiramphus colonus, is a small, colorful bird found in the forests of Micronesia. This kingfisher has a striking blue and white plumage with a rusty-orange belly. It is known for its distinctive call and its habit of perching on branches while hunting for insects and small lizards. Unfortunately, this species is critically endangered due to habitat loss and predation by invasive species. Conservation efforts are underway to protect the remaining population and reintroduce captive-bred individuals back into the wild.
