Micronesian Starling

Aplonis crassa

The Micronesian Starling (Aplonis crassa) is a medium-sized bird native to the islands of Micronesia in the western Pacific Ocean. It has a glossy black plumage with a metallic sheen and a short, stout bill. These social birds are often found in small flocks and are known for their melodious calls and vocal mimicry. They primarily feed on fruits, insects, and nectar, and are important seed dispersers in their island ecosystems. The Micronesian Starling plays a significant role in the pollination and regeneration of native plant species. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and invasive species, their populations are currently stable.
