Micronesian Starling

Aplonis opaca

The Micronesian Starling (Aplonis opaca) is a medium-sized bird native to the islands of Micronesia in the western Pacific Ocean. It is known for its glossy black plumage and bright yellow eyes. These social birds are often found in flocks, foraging for fruits, insects, and nectar in forested areas and cultivated lands. They are skilled vocal mimics and have a varied repertoire of calls and songs. The Micronesian Starling plays an important role in seed dispersal and pollination within its ecosystem. However, habitat loss and invasive species pose threats to its population. Conservation efforts are underway to protect this species and its unique island habitats.
