Micronesian White-eye

Zosterops rotensis

The Micronesian White-eye (Zosterops rotensis) is a small songbird native to the island of Rota in the Mariana Islands. It has a distinctive white ring around its eyes, olive-green upperparts, and yellow underparts. This species is known for its melodious and varied songs, often heard in the forest canopy. Micronesian White-eyes primarily feed on insects, nectar, and fruits, contributing to the pollination and seed dispersal of various plant species. Due to habitat loss and introduced predators, such as the brown tree snake, the population of Micronesian White-eyes is declining, leading to its classification as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
