Middendorff's Grasshopper Warbler

Helopsaltes ochotensis (Middendorff, 1853)

Middendorff's Grasshopper Warbler, Helopsaltes ochotensis, is a passerine of the Locustellidae family that breeds in far eastern Russia and northern Japan. It moves south outside the breeding season to the Philippines, Borneo and Sulawesi. Its range also includes eastern Siberia, the Kamchatka Peninsula and the northern Kuril Islands in the breeding period. The bird is named for Alexander Theodor von Middendorff, a German-Russian naturalist. It is associated with forests near water and scrubwoods, and it has a graduated tail with white tips.
