Minahasa Masked Owl

Tyto inexspectata (Schlegel, 1879)

Tytonidae — Barn Owls

Minahasa Masked Owl, Tyto inexspectata, is a barn owl of north and north-central Sulawesi in Indonesia. It was first recorded as a breeding bird on the Minahassa Peninsula, and it is also found in the wider north-central part of the island. The species is linked with deep forest, especially rainforest that is little changed or only lightly altered, and it occurs at 100–1,600 m. It is known from Bogani Nani Wartabone and Lore Lindu National Parks, and its continued presence is tied to the more remote montane forests.
