Mindanao racket-tail

Prioniturus waterstradti

The Mindanao racket-tail (Prioniturus waterstradti) is a medium-sized parrot species endemic to the Philippines. It is characterized by its vibrant green plumage, a distinct blue crown, and a long, graduated tail with racket-shaped tips. These parrots are known for their acrobatic flight and their raucous calls. They primarily feed on fruits, seeds, and nectar, and are often found in the canopy of lowland and montane forests. Unfortunately, habitat loss and illegal trapping for the pet trade pose significant threats to their population. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their remaining habitats and combat illegal trade.
