Mindanao Racquet-tail

Prioniturus mada

The Mindanao Racquet-tail (Prioniturus mada) is a striking parrot species endemic to the Philippines, specifically found in the forests of Mindanao. This medium-sized parrot is known for its vibrant green plumage, with a distinct blue crown, red rump, and a long, graduated tail. Its beak is short and stout, adapted for feeding on a variety of fruits, seeds, and nuts. These parrots are often found in small flocks, foraging in the canopy and occasionally descending to lower levels. Unfortunately, habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade pose significant threats to the survival of this species.
