Mindanao Serin

Chrysocorythus mindanensis (Ripley & Rabor, 1961)

Fringillidae — Finches, Euphonias

Mindanao Serin, Chrysocorythus mindanensis, is a finch of montane Mindanao in the southern Philippines, where it occurs on Mount Katanglad and Mount Apo. It was first described by Ripley and Rabor in 1961. The bird is set apart from the Indonesian serin by a greater amount of yellow in the plumage, darker streaking, a more blunt bill, a dark eye-ring and a stockier look. It lives in tropical moist montane forest, forest edge and high-altitude grassland, usually above 2,000 metres, though it has been recorded as low as 1,500 metres.
