Moluccan Red Lory

Trichoglossus forsteni

The Moluccan Red Lory, scientifically known as Trichoglossus forsteni, is a vibrant and colorful parrot species native to the Moluccan Islands in Indonesia. These medium-sized parrots are known for their striking red plumage, with accents of blue and green on their wings and tail. They have a specialized brush-tipped tongue for feeding on nectar and pollen from flowers. Moluccan Red Lories are highly social birds, often found in flocks, and are known for their playful and energetic nature. They inhabit tropical rainforests and coconut plantations, where they can be seen feeding on fruits, seeds, and nectar. Due to habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade, the conservation status of the Moluccan Red Lory is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
