Moluccan Swiftlet

Aerodramus spodiopygius

The Moluccan Swiftlet is a small, insectivorous bird found in the Moluccan Islands of Indonesia. It has a dark brown plumage with a slightly paler throat and belly. This species is known for its remarkable aerial acrobatics, often seen darting and swirling through the sky in search of flying insects. Moluccan Swiftlets build their nests in caves using saliva, which are highly prized for their use in bird's nest soup. They primarily forage over forests, coastal areas, and open water, and are known for their high-pitched calls echoing through the island's limestone cliffs.
