Sporophila morelleti
Morelet's Seedeater is a small passerine bird found in Mexico and Central America. The male has a distinctive black head, white underparts, and a black back with white streaks. The female is more subdued with a brownish-gray plumage. These seedeaters are often found in open grasslands, agricultural fields, and scrubby areas. They feed primarily on grass seeds and small insects. Morelet's Seedeaters are known for their acrobatic displays during courtship, where the male performs aerial maneuvers to attract a mate. While they are not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and agricultural intensification pose potential threats to their populations.
