Morepork

Ninox novaeseelandiae

The Morepork, also known as the Southern Boobook, is a small to medium-sized owl native to New Zealand. It has a distinctive haunting call that is often heard at night in forests and wooded areas. The Morepork is a nocturnal hunter, feeding on a variety of prey including insects, small mammals, and birds. It is well adapted to its forest habitat, using its excellent night vision and silent flight to catch prey. The plumage of the Morepork is a mix of brown, grey, and white, providing excellent camouflage in its woodland environment. Despite some threats to its habitat, the Morepork is relatively common and is not considered to be at risk of extinction.
