Mountain Blackeye

Zosterops emiliae (Sharpe, 1888)

Mountain Blackeye, Zosterops emiliae, is a passerine of montane Borneo in the Oriental Region, breeding in the island’s highest mountain areas. It occurs in the Malaysian states on Borneo and in four Indonesian provinces, but not in Brunei. Usually found above 1,800 m, it may descend to lower ground in drought. The species shows four subspecies with gradual differences across its range. Adults are dark olive-green, with a bright yellow-orange bill, a small dark facial mask, and a black eye-ring. Young birds look similar, though their bills are less brightly coloured.
