Mountain Scops Owl

Otus spilocephalus

The Mountain Scops Owl (Otus spilocephalus) is a small owl species found in the mountainous regions of Asia. It has a distinctive rounded head with prominent ear tufts and large, expressive eyes. Its plumage is mottled brown and grey, providing excellent camouflage against tree bark. This nocturnal bird preys on insects, small mammals, and birds, using its sharp talons and keen hearing to hunt in the darkness. The Mountain Scops Owl is known for its haunting, whistled hoots that echo through the mountain forests at night.
