Mountain Thrush

Turdus plebejus Cabanis, 1861

Mountain Thrush, Turdus plebejus, is a thrush of montane forests in middle America, breeding from south-east Mexico through Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and into Panama. It was first described by Cabanis in 1861. The bird is found in both primary and secondary evergreen and pine-oak woodland, often where mosses and epiphytes are abundant, and it also uses mossy trees in gardens and pastures. It is a resident species, though some birds move to lower ground in the wet season. Its range is split into separate populations, and it is known from elevations between 900 and 3,500 m.
