Mountain Trogon

Trogon mexicanus Swainson, 1827

Mountain Trogon, Trogon mexicanus, is a trogon of Middle America, breeding from Mexico to Honduras in montane forest. It belongs to the family Trogonidae and was described by Swainson in 1827. It is found in moist subtropical and tropical mountain woodland, especially pine-evergreen and pine-oak forest, and occurs between 3,000 and 10,000 ft. It also makes use of coffee plantations when these have enough shade trees, including oaks. The species is sexually dimorphic, with the male and female differing in plumage.
