Mountain Wheatear

Myrmecocichla monticola

The Mountain Wheatear (Myrmecocichla monticola) is a small, insectivorous bird found in rocky and mountainous areas of eastern and southern Africa. This species is known for its distinctive black and white plumage, with a black head and back, white underparts, and a white stripe above the eye. It has a slender build and a long, thin bill, which it uses to forage for insects and spiders among the rocks and boulders. The Mountain Wheatear is often seen perched on prominent rocks or low shrubs, where it sings a melodious and varied song. Despite its relatively wide distribution, this species faces threats from habitat loss and degradation in some parts of its range.
