Mourning Collared Dove, Streptopelia decipiens, is a widespread breeding bird across Africa south of the Sahara. It is a dove of open country and is often found near water. The species is a stocky, medium-sized pigeon with broad, pointed wings, and it can be recognised in flight by the white in the tail. The neck carries a black patch edged with white, and the legs and bare skin around the eye are red. It is also known to gather with other doves and feed on the ground.
