Nacunda Nighthawk

Chordeiles nacunda

The Nacunda Nighthawk is a medium-sized nocturnal bird found in South America. It has a cryptic plumage with mottled brown and gray patterns that provide excellent camouflage during the day. This species is known for its distinctive call, a nasal 'peent' sound, which it emits during its crepuscular and nocturnal flights. Nacunda Nighthawks are often observed foraging for insects in open savannas, grasslands, and agricultural areas. They are agile fliers, using their long, slender wings to perform acrobatic aerial maneuvers while hunting. The species is generally considered to be of least concern in terms of conservation status.
