Negros Bleeding-heart

Gallicolumba keayi

The Negros Bleeding-heart is a species of ground dove endemic to the Philippines. It is named for the distinctive red patch on its breast that resembles a bleeding wound. This shy and elusive bird is primarily found in lowland forests and dense vegetation, foraging on the forest floor for seeds, fruits, and insects. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the population of the Negros Bleeding-heart is declining, and it is classified as Endangered by the IUCN. Conservation efforts are underway to protect its remaining habitat and raise awareness about the threats it faces.
