Nelson's Sparrow

Geothlypis nelsoni

Nelson's Sparrow is a small, secretive bird found in saltmarshes and wet grasslands of North America. It has a distinctive yellow wash on the face and breast, with a grayish-brown back and wings. This species is known for its skulking behavior, often staying hidden in dense vegetation. It feeds on insects and seeds, foraging close to the ground. Nelson's Sparrow is a migratory bird, breeding in the northern prairies and marshes and wintering along the southern coasts. Its population is currently stable, but it faces threats from habitat loss and degradation.
