Neotropic Cormorant

Nannopterum brasilianum (Gmelin, JF, 1789)

Neotropic Cormorant, Nannopterum brasilianum, breeds across inland and coastal parts of North America, Middle America and South America, from the southern United States to Tierra del Fuego, and also in the Bahamas and Cuba. It is a cormorant of the American tropics and subtropics, occurring on coasts, including mangrove areas, and in inland waters. In southern South America it is known by the indigenous name biguá. The species was described by Gmelin in 1789.
