Neumayer's nuthatch

Sitta neumayer

Neumayer's nuthatch is a small bird species found in the mountainous regions of central and southeastern Europe and parts of Asia. It is known for its distinctive blue-gray upperparts and orange underparts, with a black stripe through the eye. This nuthatch is often found in coniferous and mixed forests, where it forages for insects and seeds by climbing and probing tree bark. It builds its nest in tree cavities, where the female lays and incubates eggs. Neumayer's nuthatch is not currently considered to be at risk, but habitat loss and degradation could pose future threats to its populations.
