Caprimulgidae — Nightjars

New Caledonian Nightjar, Eurostopodus exul, is a nightjar of Grande Terre in New Caledonia, with its only known breeding record coming from a specimen taken in 1939. It was described by Mayr in 1941. The type bird was collected in coastal savanna. On that specimen, the plumage was silvery grey with dark markings and streaks, the crown was black, and the underparts were dark grey-brown. It also showed a white throat patch and did not have the nuchal collar seen in some other Caprimulgiformes.
