New Caledonian Owlet-nightjar, Aegotheles savesi, is an owlet-nightjar of Grande Terre in New Caledonia and is likely extinct. It belongs to the family Aegothelidae and was described by Layard, EL & Layard, ELC in 1881. The bird is known for its large build, with vermiculated grey-brown and black plumage, a long tail that is slightly rounded, short rounded wings and long stout legs. It is the second-largest owlet-nightjar known, exceeded only by the extinct New Zealand owlet-nightjar, and is much larger than the Australian owlet-nightjar.
