New Zealand Quail, Coturnix novaezelandiae, was a quail of New Zealand in the family Phasianidae. It lived in lowland tussock grassland and open fernlands, and was terrestrial in temperate parts of its range. The male and female were much alike, though the female was paler. It is now extinct. The bird was first described by Quoy & Gaimard in 1832. It was endemic to New Zealand, within Australasia.
