New Zealand Rockwren, Xenicus gilviventris, is a New Zealand wren in the family Acanthisittidae, breeding in montane South Island, New Zealand. It is confined to alpine and subalpine parts of the island, where it lives on the ground in low scrub, open scree and rockfalls. It is the only surviving New Zealand wren apart from the rifleman, and its nearest extinct relatives were the stout-legged wrens, with the bushwren also close behind. Its numbers are falling because introduced mammals prey on it.
