Niam-niam parrot

Poicephalus crassus

The Niam-niam parrot (Poicephalus crassus) is a medium-sized parrot native to the dense forests and woodlands of Central Africa. Known for its striking green plumage and bright red patches on the wings, this species is highly social and often found in small flocks. Niam-niam parrots are adept at mimicking sounds and have a diverse vocal repertoire. They primarily feed on fruits, seeds, and nuts, and are known for their playful and inquisitive nature. Due to habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade, the Niam-niam parrot is facing population declines in some areas.
