Nilgiri Sholakili

Sholicola major

The Nilgiri Sholakili, scientifically known as Sholicola major, is a small passerine bird found in the Western Ghats of India. It is known for its distinctive high-pitched calls and secretive behavior, often staying hidden within dense undergrowth. This species has a dark plumage with subtle shades of blue and green, providing excellent camouflage in its forest habitat. The Nilgiri Sholakili primarily inhabits montane evergreen forests and can often be found foraging for insects and small invertebrates on the forest floor. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the conservation status of the Nilgiri Sholakili is currently categorized as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
