North Island Robin

Petroica longipes

The North Island Robin, scientifically known as Petroica longipes, is a small passerine bird native to the North Island of New Zealand. It is characterized by its distinctive black and white plumage, with a black head, back, and wings, and a white belly and underparts. These birds are often found in native forests, scrublands, and coastal areas, where they forage for insects and invertebrates on the forest floor. The North Island Robin is known for its curious and friendly nature, often approaching humans in search of food. Despite their boldness, these birds are vulnerable to habitat loss and predation by introduced species.
