Northern Bald Ibis, Geronticus eremita, is an ibis of coastal western Morocco, nearly extinct in central Syria, semi-captive in south-west Turkey, and now reintroduced in parts of central and southern Europe. It was once far more widespread. It belongs to the Threskiornithidae family within the Pelecaniformes. The bird is known for its bare red head and face and its long red bill, and it nests in colonies on cliff ledges. It was described by Linnaeus in 1758.
