Ninox japonica (Temminck & Schlegel, 1845)

Northern Boobook, Ninox japonica, is an owl in the Strigidae family that breeds from the Russian Far East through the Korean Peninsula to Japan and Taiwan. It was described by Temminck and Schlegel in 1845. Its range lies across the Palearctic and Oriental regions. The bird was once treated as part of Ninox scutulata, but it is now recognised as a separate species. Two subspecies are included, one migratory and one resident.
