Northern Brown-throated Weaver, Ploceus castanops, is a bird of the family Ploceidae that breeds in Africa from Uganda and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo to western Kenya and northern Tanzania. Its range also reaches north-western Tanzania and adjacent areas in the region. P. victoriae, described by Ash in 1986, is now regarded as a hybrid involving P. castanops and P. melanocephalus. Shelley described the species in 1888. It belongs to the order Passeriformes.
