Northern Chestnut-tailed Antbird, Sciaphylax castanea, is a passerine of the antbird family in western Amazonia, where it breeds in South America. It occurs in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, with the nominate form in southeastern Ecuador and northern Peru, and the other subspecies extending from far southern Colombia through eastern Ecuador into northeastern Peru. It lives in the understorey and on the forest floor of terra firme woodland, especially in rather stunted forest on poor sandy ground. It was first described by Zimmer in 1932 and is now placed in Sciaphylax.
