Fulmarus glacialis
The Northern Fulmar, or Fulmarus glacialis, is a seabird known for its tube-like nostrils on the top of its bill. These birds have a wingspan of around 100-110 cm and are often seen gliding effortlessly over the open ocean. Their plumage is predominantly white with gray markings, and they have a distinctive flight pattern, often appearing to glide just above the water's surface. Northern Fulmars are highly adapted for life at sea and are known for their ability to drink seawater and excrete excess salt through specialized glands. They breed in large colonies on cliffs and rocky islands, and are often found in the North Atlantic and North Pacific. These birds are opportunistic feeders, consuming fish, squid, and offal from fishing vessels.
