Hierococcyx hyperythrus (Gould, 1856)

Northern Hawk-Cuckoo, Hierococcyx hyperythrus, breeds in se Siberia, Japan, the Korean Peninsula and ne China, and moves south outside the breeding season to se Asia, n Borneo and n Sulawesi. It is a cuckoo of the family Cuculidae. The bird is hard to see because it often stays high in the crowns of tall trees. It is also noted for its hawk-like appearance, which can lead to confusion with Accipiter species in the field.
