The Northern Pygmy-Owl is a small owl species found in western North America. It has a rounded head with no ear tufts and yellow eyes. Its upperparts are brown with white spots, and the underparts are pale with streaks. This diurnal owl is known for its distinctive call, a series of whistled toots. It preys on small birds, mammals, and insects and is an agile hunter. The Northern Pygmy-Owl prefers coniferous and mixed forests with open areas for hunting. It nests in tree cavities and may also use abandoned woodpecker holes. Despite its small size, it is a fierce predator and an important part of its ecosystem.
