Northern Red-fronted Tinkerbird, Pogoniulus uropygialis, is a bird of open woodland in Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia, extending through south-east Sudan, Uganda and south-east Tanzania. It belongs to the African barbet family and was first described in 1862. Adults are set apart by the red marking above the bill, with males showing a red patch on the forehead. It was once treated as the same species as the Southern Red-fronted Tinkerbird, but is now recognised separately.
