Northern Royal Albatross

Diomedea sanfordi

The Northern Royal Albatross, scientifically known as Diomedea sanfordi, is a magnificent seabird with a wingspan that can reach up to 3.1 meters, making it one of the largest flying birds. These albatrosses are known for their graceful gliding flight over the open ocean, where they spend most of their lives. They are primarily pelagic, only returning to land to breed. The diet of the Northern Royal Albatross consists mainly of fish, squid, and crustaceans. These birds are monogamous and form long-term pair bonds. Threats to their population include fisheries bycatch and habitat degradation.
