Northern Sooty Woodpecker, Mulleripicus funebris, is a woodpecker of the northern Philippines, breeding in the Luzon group. It occurs on Luzon, Marinduque, Catanduanes and the Polillo Islands, and is found in primary forest and mature secondary forest. It is linked with tropical moist lowland and montane forest. The bird can be recognised by its darker grey plumage, with males showing burgundy markings across the face and smaller white spots on the neck and face. It was formerly treated together with the Southern Sooty Woodpecker.
