Northern Tropical Pewee

Contopus bogotensis (Bonaparte, 1850)

Northern Tropical Pewee, Contopus bogotensis, is a passerine of the tyrant flycatcher family that breeds from south-eastern Mexico through Middle America into northern South America, reaching northern Colombia and north-east Brazil. It is a bird of forest edges and openings, and also uses woodland, gallery forest, plantations, shrubby places and mangroves. One subspecies is almost entirely tied to mangroves. The species has a broken range, with different forms occupying separate parts of its distribution. It is mostly a resident bird, although the northern edge of the Mexican population moves south in winter.
