Northern Variable Pitohui

Northern Variable Pitohui, Pitohui kirhocephalus, is a passerine in the Oriolidae family and breeds in northern New Guinea. It occurs in moist lowland forest and is also recorded from nearby islands. This bird is among the few known to be poisonous. It was formerly treated as the variable pitohui, before taxonomic changes in 2013 separated off the Raja Ampat pitohui and the southern variable pitohui. Eleven subspecies are recognised, with named forms spread across north-western, south-western and northern parts of New Guinea, plus several offshore islands.
