Campethera nubica
The Nubian Woodpecker (Campethera nubica) is a medium-sized woodpecker found in parts of sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its striking black and white plumage, with a bright red crown on the male. This species is known for its distinctive drumming sound, which it uses to communicate and establish territory. Nubian Woodpeckers primarily inhabit wooded savannas and open forests, where they forage for insects by tapping and pecking on tree trunks. They are often observed in pairs or small family groups.
