Nutting's seedeater

Sporophila nuttingi

Nutting's seedeater (Sporophila nuttingi) is a small passerine bird found in the dry forests and grasslands of Central America. This species is known for its distinctive black and white plumage, with the males displaying a striking black throat and chest. The females have a more subdued coloration with brown and white feathers. Nutting's seedeaters are often found in small flocks foraging for grass seeds and insects. They are known for their acrobatic flight displays during courtship. Despite their once widespread distribution, habitat loss and fragmentation have led to population declines in recent years, leading to a conservation status of Near Threatened according to the IUCN Red List.
