Hemignathus lucidus Lichtenstein, MHC, 1839

Oahu Nukupuu, Hemignathus lucidus, was a Hawaiian honeycreeper of Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands, and it is now extinct. It belonged to the Fringillidae and was described by Lichtenstein, MHC, in 1839. Its most notable feature was a long, downcurved bill, with the upper bill much longer than the lower, used to take insects from beneath tree bark. Males were mainly yellow on the head and underparts, with olive-green feathers from the wing bend, while females and young were duller. It lived in high and low elevation forests and fed on koa and ʻōhiʻa.
