Rhodopis vesper (Lesson, RP, 1829)

Oasis Hummingbird, Rhodopis vesper, is a hummingbird of north-west Peru to northern Chile in South America. It is the only species in Rhodopis. The bird is found in coastal and near-coastal places, including dry scrub with oases, river corridors, farmland and gardens. Its range runs from near sea level to 3,800 m, though in much of Peru it is usually below 2,600 m. Three subspecies are recognised, with one known only from a single locality in north-western Peru. The species has also spread south in Chile since the 1960s.
