Oaxaca Sparrow

Aimophila notosticta

The Oaxaca Sparrow (Aimophila notosticta) is a small, elusive bird species found in the highlands of southern Mexico. It is characterized by its streaked brown and gray plumage, with a distinctive rufous crown and white throat. This sparrow is often found skulking in dense undergrowth, foraging for seeds and insects. It prefers montane oak and pine-oak forests with thick underbrush, where it can remain hidden from predators. The Oaxaca Sparrow is considered a species of least concern by the IUCN, but its limited range and habitat loss due to deforestation pose potential threats to its population.
