Obscure Berrypecker, Melanocharis arfakiana, is a passerine in the berrypecker family found patchily in the foothills of New Guinea. It was described by Finsch in 1900. The species is known from the Arfak Mountains and from mountains northwest of Port Moresby, with confirmed records from 1867 and 1933. It has also been reported from other parts of New Guinea. These records place it in upland country, and the sightings have come from disturbed forest, including areas altered by people.
