Ocellated Crake, Rufirallus schomburgkii, is a rail of South America, with its breeding range in the north, south-central and south-east of the continent. It lives in open grassland and savanna, including both dry and flooded sites, and is usually associated with tall, dense grasses. The bird is best known for its cinnamon plumage marked with black-ringed white spots, which make it straightforward to identify when seen. It was first described in 1848 by Schomburgk and is placed in the family Rallidae.
